Following a career initially in chemicals & industry, transport, distribution, logistics and customer service management in a retail environment, Derek has worked within local firms of solicitors since 2002. Whilst employed in solicitors’ practices which operated across Dewsbury, Batley, Mirfield, Wakefield, Denby Dale, and Huddersfield, as a lawyer, Derek specialised in Conveyancing, Wills, Probate and Trusts, as well as working in the County Court, Magistrates Court and at Employment Tribunals.
In 2010 Derek made the decision to form his own firm, and left one of Yorkshire’s largest firms of solicitors in order to convert to regulation via The Council For Licensed Conveyancers. The firm now has two fully qualified lawyers and is authorised to act in the full range of conveyancing work, to extract Grants of Probate and administer estates, and in the preparation of Wills. The firm is supported, for your assurance and protection, by full Professional Indemnity Insurance to the level of £2,000,000 in carrying out Conveyancing, Probate, Wills, Powers of Attorney, and Estate Planning work.
The firm also assists clients in a applications to the Court of Protection (the Office of the Public Guardian), where a person has lost capacity to deal in his/her own affairs.
As a Full Member of the Institute of Professional Willwriters, Derek operates in all aspects of Wills, Estate Planning and Asset Preservation, fully under guidelines and procedures put in place which comply with a Code of Practice approved by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), now Trading Standards Institute (TSI).
